Drain your tranny lube & check for metal shavings.... Anyone want to calculate how high the drive train had to revv up to at 120 mph in 3rd gear?!? I'm not sure it's possible. Are U just trying to get attention?

He said his car was only doing maybe 105 mph with his small tires, my 7 can do well over 105 in third, and I have 4:10 gears.

4 options based on replies given:
1. Inspect it, proceed to option 2, 3 or 4 accordingly.
2. Use it and hope for the best. Free at least for now, but a good chance of being stranded, being forced to do option 3 or 4 anyway and going w/o a ride at an inconvenient time. Plus a $100-$150 tow if you don't have coverage or AAA.
3. Fix it yourself for $100-$300 or pay $500-$600 to get it fixed. But little/no risk involved.
4. Find alternate transportation for 2 months. Rent/borrow/public/mooch/etc. Also no risk, but possibly more costly or troublesome.

And low mileage does not necessarily mean reliable. There are links to buyer's guides in the forum FAQ.

the road speed is absolutely impertinent, the car was putting out its 120mph equivalent. correct me if im wrong but dont most of us have the 4:10's?

It depends on the model. Most of us? Maybe.

well... from the top of fourth gear into 3rd would be bad - maybe 10-12k rpm's? wouldn't that be scatter territory? Stress cracks? Burned up synchros?

you probably fucked your throwout bearing, and chewed the hell outt your fingers on your pressure plate...

that'd be why its so hard to get it in gear and theres a scraping sound when your goin to engage the clutch, either way new clutch time, you could drive her till she dies but it might end up takin your tranny with it
