Question Accelerator Cable Tension??

I have a question for an 88SE. Is there supposed to be tension on the accelerator cable in order for the car to run. Mine has been ajusted at the ajustable spot where it connects to the dynamics chamber all the way to the end of the threads. If I readjust it so that there is no tension the car wont idle. Ive already searched threads for a similiar condition but no luck. Input please.

You shouldn't be adjusting the idle via throttle cable tension, except an emergency situation. Look into vaccuum leaks and/or bad vaccuum hoses, idle screw adjustment, TP sensor adjustment, timing, BAC valve function. If all is good, your engine should hold a fairly steady idle all on it's own.
