About a T5 Transmission
Does anyone know about putting a mustang t5 transmission in an FC? i heard its possible or something. and it will give ur car a great amount of extra "umph" and zoom. i hear itll fit right in bolt holes match right up and all. well if anyone knows about this let me know. cuz i heard about it quite a few times. and if it is a good idea to get it dropped in there.

there is a company that makes an FC adapter for t-5. i was trying to find a T-56 for my NA, but they are expensive, and not exactly like the T-5, so i wasnt sure the adapter would fit. the adapter isnt cheap either. i forgot what the company was called, but if someone really wants to know, i can probably dig it up.

they either have the adapter, or can make it. You can find the T5(worldclass) in many mustangs, but also in many jeep cherokees, both very findable in the strip yard. Either will not matter as you will have to change the bell housing anyway, the biggest problem you will have, is whether the input shaft on the tranny will match to your clutch disc, but again, they will tell you if it will or wont, and will gat you the right one if it wont. Hydraulics are the same as it is an externally mounted slave. Hope this helps, and good luck. I havent done this, but have considred it, along with many other things that I just shelved in my mind.

Care to tell us how much the total bill was to fit everything in?

ok mister ted,
i just said i put one in there. didnt say i put anything on the tranny to make it fit. a friend of mine at the tech school was doing the conversion. he did what ever he had to do to make it fit and have the shifter come out of the right place. he did not however disclose the price of this transplant. my previous statement is as simple as it sounds, I PUT ONE IN AN FC! that means i hoisted it up and bolted it in......***
and yes, it most certainly was a T5, i helped him remove the automatic. he was referd to by those who didnt know david as the guy who put a mustang tranny in a mazda.

WHY? T5's are notoriously weak. I swapped one in one of my 5.0's (previous AOD car)...and bought a Tremec 3550 shortly after. T5's are decent, light, easy-shifting transmissions, but they have a lot of major weak spots - not worth the effort, IMO.
FWIW - NO V8 Mustang ever came with a hydraulic clutch linkage, either - they are/were all cable operated, so be prepared to deal with a lot of hassle when you go to get the clutch hydros working.
