About to order my Vert Top Seals from VB - quick question for those who have done it

for those who have ordered the top seals from Vb in an attempt to fix a top leak which parts did you order. Looking at the diagram in the catalogue I think I will order the two side seals (top of targa - center on rh and lh sides) and the Homing Bar seal (front of soft back part of top)
I suppose it all depends on where the individual is expereincing the leak. Mine appears to be coming from the top back corner of the drivers window where the hinge on the targa section is.
Can some people please ive me some advise before I shell out the 250 or whatever this is gonna cost me. I know some have replaced their seals only to find they still have a leak.

Vert Seals

Hey,

Just a friendly reminder that a soft top car will leak if its raining very hard and you still changed all your seals. I have a friend with a brand new BMW convertible that leaks when it rains hard and thats a 65k car...

On the positive side.

I just changed my seals on each end of the targa where the window goes up and makes contact with the seal and my leaks have stopped from that area.

I also bought seals from VB to change the ones on the front of the doorwell that channel the water from the front of the window at the front of the targa piece where the latches are to drain if water does manage to penetrate the seal on the targa and there is a great difference there also.

Just bear in mind that with any 15 year old car the rubber starts to get deteriorated and needs to get replaced. Since my seal change I have bought a waterproof breathable car cover to throw over the car to keep the element damage down to a minimum.

I would shell out the money to get the new seals as they are worth it. The seals that I got from VB are OEM. Came in the original Mazda bag with their orignial part number and fit exactly like the original.

Be careful as changing the ones on each end of the targa can be a bitch to remove and get the new one in to the exact spot the old one was in. Took me like 1 - 2 hour to remove and play with it enough so that it fit decent and did not leak anywhere.

Hope this helps you out in your thoughts to get new seals from VB

Regards,

- Anil Singh

Uh, no. If the top is a modern design with proper overlapping seals, there's no path the water can take to get inside the car. Now if the seals are cracked, sagging, or missing any hole will leak.

If you find a spot on the rx-7 seals that are not pressing together properly, you can buy rubber strips to build up/reinforce the pressure of the seals.
