Thread from the dead!

Anyone ever figure this out? I have the calipers and started compling all the technical data. So far it appears that only the front calipers can be used, they will require different rotors other than the stock Evo rotors and definately a bracket for the calipers to work.

Brembo offers a kit for the FD that has the brackets that might work on the FC, but I have to look at the wheel size requirements and see if it would work with 17's. If not I might machine some of my own brackets.

Any input on your experiences would be appreciated.

What amazes me is that he buys the $2500+ brake kit BEFORE he finds out if it'll fit his car or not.

Thanks for nothing guy...

Not that I give two flying monkey craps about your opinion, but I got all the brakes for next to nothing, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Thank again for nothing guy!

I wasn't talking about you specifically, primarily the OP.

But just how much is "next to nothing" for something that retails at $3-4K?

$1000?

That's still a pretty big leap of faith.

Hey Valk, sorry for the comment a few post ago, I don't frequent the forums much because everyone is slamming everyone all the time. So my knee jerk reaction to your response was a bit hasty.

After selling the rear calipers and all the Evo rotors, I should be at or less than 400 for the front calipers and pads. I know that I will have to buy rotors likely. Then the machining of the brackets, so I am sure it will be around 800 or so. Considering that most FC BBK start at 1,800, the time running around to make it happen is worth the effort to me.

I track the car and have experienced pretty bad brake fade using Hawk HP pads, so I thought I would try working on the upgrade. If it works out well, maybe I'll offer the brackets to other FC owners. Do a nice write up with what I did, part numbers and photos?

Ted, I take it you have tried something similar or worked with the FD Brembo kit? Anymore details or info would be greatly appreciated.

The car is worth a little more than 2,500 at this stage in its life, but that is a subjective argueement. Whats your's worth, hahah

Not too many FC's worth over $2500 no matter what the owner or friends think.

Maybe 10% are worth more... but adding a big brake kit on a car that doesn't need it in the first place... well some people have more money than sense.

and according to Edmunds True Value, my FC is worth $1,493 dealer wholesale, $2,102 private party, and $3,115 dealer retail. I'd like to think that a 10th AE with only 86,000 miles and new paint, rebuilt street ported motor, megasquirt, and a new interior is worth more... but it isn't.

and I am sure that a 87 turbo... with probably more miles and a bunch of tweaks, is still not worth any more, (again), no matter what you think.

^ thanks for being level headed. I think i've got a good jump on it now that I have mocked it up. I have some machining that needs to be done, but I'll have more by the end of the week hopefully.

Any calipers aren't really that hard to fit on a car if you're willing to make your own brackets and deal with wheel clearance issues.

Its only worth as much as you can sell it for regardless of what "book" value is.

and do you think that adding a $3000 brake kit to a $2500 car, that you are going to get $5500 when you sell it?

You're not worth it. I'm just kidding. I <3 you phoenix7.

You're not going to get the same amount of money out of the car that you put in. Fact.

Will you get 10K for your car? Not a chance unless you've refurb'd everything and have some pretty nice 1 off stuff, but then again if you went through all that work, why sell?

as for the brake question: you'll have to goto a machine shop to get the brakets made. You probably won't find any braket that will work commercially, but hey spend a couple days looking for one and get a quote from a machine shop. See which one's cheaper.

i payed $2500 for my car and it was an auto with 186,000miles(epic fail on my part) but as my dad says a car is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. and since i doubt he plans on selling it it is priceless. hehehe
