929 MAF(VAF?) modification.

ok, so I tried a search but didn't find all I was looking for. After reading that someone on here used a Probe GT VAF on their RX-7 with no problems, I got an idea for my buddies with Probes.

I have read that the MAF off of a 929 fits the 89-91 RX-7s and produce a noticable gain.

So logically the 929 MAF will fit a Probe GT.

I can't remember who it was, but someone on here did the swap. I would like some info concerning it

Thanks.

I have no idea the size, but it was from 92-95 929s. That's all I remember. It was Mazdaspeed7 that last brought it up I think. He may know.

I'm just trying to find this out, because if it works I know a lot of people that will benefit.

Anyone know if the plug is the same? Would it need a rewire?

The 929 MAF sensor is 3" inlet as compared to 2.5" for the RX7 one. The plug is the same, and its a direct bolt/plug-in. The increase is supposed to be noticable. This is only what I was told, I have not comfirmed any of this myself.

Just an FYI, I got ahold of an AFM off of a 95 Cosmo 13B-RE twin turbo that I am going to now ty to make work on our project 86. It is the same shape as the 89+ AFM, but it is HUGE compared to it. I will post it up when I get it going.

I have a question, will the 929 MAF fit a 87 NA? I have to do something to let mine breathe easier since its back to being my only car again

And all these things like carpet and a dash board weigh so much and slow me down

I just checked, the MAF's have different part numbers(JE50-13-210 for the 929 and KL02-13-210 for the MX6/ProbeGT), but they look identical. Dont know what the difference is.

I was told that the 89+ T2 where the largest ones that Mazda has in the U.S.

I had one lined up to buy locally, but the deal fell through.

I do know that the 89+ T2 are a direct bolt on for the 89+ na.

SO if anyone had a 89+ T2, could you check the size of your mass air flow sensor?

Thanks, CJ

The 929 one is bigger.

The plug will only fit the 89-91 cars. You might be able to find an older 929 MAF that will fit onto the 86-88 plug, but I am not sure. Try one from a 929 of the same year.

all of the plunger style afms should swap out. its easy to look in the shop manual to see if the pinouts are the same. you dont want to blow up the ecu

T2 should have the same one as NA. The cone they use are the same for both cars, teh inlet has to be 2.5

I'll check some junkyards for an MAF off of a 92-95 929. If I find one I'll buy it and swap it out for mine. If this happens, I'll let you guys know the results. Thanks for all the great info.
