92 miata vs 89 GTU

Hey my friend wants to race me and he is running a bone stock 92 miata and he wants to race me. I keep telling him there is no point because I am gonna kill him, but he thinks because of his "double clutching" that he can beat me.

What do you all think?

BTW the GTU has wired open VDI, cone intake, and gutted cats.

hahaha...unless he keeps the gas pinned to the floor between shifts his "double clutching" won't do anything...hell, it'll slow him down! haha

i think you'll beat him...you BETTER beat him...he's been watching too much Fast and the Furious!

they arent very fast in a straightline. i think they bearly tip 100 hp that year. (thats why they need rotarys in them!) anyways, you guys should take it to an autoX, that maaay be closer, but you should walk on him there too...

The '92 Miata put out 116 hp and weighed 2216 lbs.
With your mods, you'll kill him in a straight line. If you were stock, you'd still beat him, but not humiliate him.

In an autocross, given equal drivers with equal tires, you'll get beat. Stock vs stock you'd get smoked. While a Miata doesn't accelerate for crap, any speed it makes is easily kept through most turns.

Also if you used the Pax index, you'd be in CSP with your mods while the Miata would be in ES. You'd have to really kill him in to out-Pax him as well.

Of course, if he's dumb enough to think he can beat you in a straight line, he's probably a bad driver as well, so you'll be spankin him all over the place.

He doesn't really know what double clutching is. He heard it in F & F and thinks it will make him go faster. The only time double clutching helps is when down shifting in a corner.

Just go out there and smoke him.

Double clutching is for trucker. Miata and FC are very close in autox. I've beaten this guy's 93 day after day

That's driver, not car.

If you look at results for any SCCA divisional or national event, you won't see an FC running is ES. Why not? They're nowhere near as fast as a Miata or MR2 (which spank the Miatas).

In a straight line and on an open racetrack, the FC would be the car to have. At an autocross, the Miata rules.

Early Miatas are not as fast as you think in autox. Also we are in CS, not ES.

That was last year. The FC and 90-93 Miatas are now in ES.

I've been autocrossing for 6 years. I've seen and driven plenty of different FC's and Miatas. The Miatas are faster autocross cars.

Autocross, for the car, is not about straight line or road holding, it's about how well the car can transition from one direction to another. At under 2300 lbs in weight, there's only one car that can do it better - aka MR2.

See thats what I thought, now if I get him to read this thread then he might finally shut his mouth, I know he dosen't know what double clutching is thats why I put it in " 's. I have tried to explain to him what it is but he insist it makes him go faster

This race would be from a dead stop, I already know I would kill him on the freeway so there is no point to do that.

I have never autocrossed before so I have no clue about any of that, maybe I should look into that...

I will let you guys know when I beat him, maybe throw some money down
