'91 Vert Factory Alarm question
I'm not sure if the proceedure to set the factory alarm is the sam for every 2nd Gen.
I know you set the alarm on an '88 by locking both doors from the inside and holding the outside door handle up when you close the passender side. And you can confirm that the alarm is set by the light on the center consol lighting up and later flashing.
But now I'm dealing with a '91 Vert. Where the alarm light would be is now the switch to open and close the convertable top. And I tried to set it the same way as an '88, but no indication of an alarm being set much less a flashing light somewhere. And, unfortunately the car didn't come with an owners manual that might give me a hint of the situation.
Sooooo, you '91 (perhaps '90 also?) Vert drivers out there please share you insight as to:
1. How do I Arm and Disarm the factory alarm.
2. Where is the flashing light when its armed? Is it now a light on my center dash information light cluster only?
My thanks in advance.

The same way you just described how to set the 88. The alarm light is in the idiot light cluster now. It also beeps like the earlier models, just with a higher pitch noise.

Thanks Dave
Guess that simply means the alarm isn't working on this car. Guess this means it's time to pull out the test meter and wiring diagram this weekend.

The top may be open or closed and the alarm will still work. Everything must be closed properaly for it to work including the hood and trunk. You need to get out of the car and reach in and press down the lock on the drivers side door which will in turn lock the passenger side door too; then hold the door handle up and close the door. The light on the dash will come on in about 5 seconds and start to blink. If any part of this is not done correctly it will not work. You can not use the key to lock the door, and you cant set the alarm and then grab something out of the trunk real quick unless you lock the trunk with the key after you're done (you need to turn the key the opposite dirrection of when you open it). The best part about the alarm is when you have the top down and you want to run in a store or go play some basketball or something; if someone reaches in and pushes up the lock on the door HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! HONK! I'm thinking about putting in a bigger horn to aid in the defense.

Here is some of the manual:
http://www.cabrio7.org/rx7man1.html
The alarm will arm whether the top is up or down. I used to leave the top down and arm the alarm all the time. Then I'd let passengers unlock their own door from the inside and laugh as they set off the alarm
If you're alarm is not arming, you may need to check your CPU. I needed to perform the CPU resolder to get mine working again. When mine stopped working, I also lost my highbeams and the seatbelt light would come on from occassionally.

I want one that will install in the factory location and will work with the factory wiring. If these Hella air horns will do that I'll look into them; thanks.
