The car shuts off only when I take left turns.

How much gas is in the tank when it does this? If you are below a 1/4 tank, fill it up. The gas sloshes in the gas tank and can be completely off of the fuel pump pickup in left hand corners. Old car, poor baffling is my guess.

If this is your problem, the solutions are to drive with over 1/2 tank at all times or to build a properly baffled gas tank to prevent it. Try your left hand turn again with a full tank and see if it is your issue.

If the fuel sock is clogged is there some type of additive to free it up?

It doesn't turn off all the time but I have noticed that it does turn off when I have less than 1/2 tank.

No. You need to get a new fuel sock. It is a filter that is in the tank attached to your fuel pump. FWIW, that alone probably wont fix your problem. Fuel slosh is the main issue. A dirty fuel sock makes it harder to supply fuel though.

It's the sock, that can cause severe cutting out in left hand turns. Mine did that untill I replaced the sock, never had it happen again unless it was REALLY low on gas. The baffles in the tank can also be rusted out, but it's probably the sock.
