91 na 55k "bad engine" opinions

I found a deal on a 91 na, 55k, auto, with bad engine.
I'm not sure if it's locked all together or just won't start.
I've revived 12a's with many more miles.
It's sitting at an import shop, I know the mechanic, he's not an idiot, he said it would have to come apart, but i'm not thoroughly convinced.

I looked at this same car before when it was running, i'm sure it's death was caused by in-town driving by a female, not helped by being an auto.

What are the chances she'll come lose, assuming it's a carbon problem, using mmo or similar methods?

I'm not sure I want to buy it if I have to tear it down.
The paint is faded and the interior needs some attention, but it's too cheap to pass up.

thanks
Joe

How far is Owensboro from Cincinnati? There's quite a few RX-7 drivers around here...

I bought a 89 GXL with a bad engine for $250, and I found a used engine for it for $350.

As long as the price is right, you should not pass that up.

I'd say about 50/50 that it can be saved..it is really hard to say. That is low miles, but I have seen them dead with less.

It may come lose with help of something, but prob won't have anywhere near as long of life expectancy as it should. Sounds like a passer upper though to me. Auto, faded paint, bad interior, seized motor, only way I'd touch it is for a parts car personally.

I think I can pick it up for the value of the tail lights alone, maybe i rebuild the 13b for my fb.

Be really cool if I could just get it going and sell it.

Thanks for the help guys.
