91 automatic help

ok i go to look at a 91 gtu? with a auto tranny today... lady was told it had a bad motor "running on 1 rotor" wrote on 2 invoices...well i pulled the plugs thinking it might have been flooded... nope they were dry and dirty... i cleaned them and shot in a little aft.... she fired right up but wouldnt rev over 2k... hummm ok and it did act like it was low on power kinda like a 1 rotor motor but it wasnt ruff. so i eazed it down to a idle to see if it would... hell yea purred like a kitty. so i go take it for a spin... pull it from park to n she revs up and then settles down to 850ish rpm.. hit the gas a few times and she spins up great... so im thinking no motor issues... i drop it in D and off i go... i mean REALLY SLOWLY... the funny thing was from 0-55 mph it NEVER changed gears... its like its stuck in 3rd gear... very slow starting off and the rpm never drops.@45 it seemed to do ok... like you were drivingand had to punch it a little it had some *** but its odd that it would hang in 3rd gear... i would figure 1st if anything. well when i got back to the house i put her in N revedit just fine... put it in P and it hits the 2k rpm area and wont rev any higher... plus its kinda torquing the car a bit... like its in gear with the brake on... what does this sound like to you all? a bad tranny ? a bad torque converter?
now the BIG question will a sr4 auto tranny fit and wire up to a sr5 auto tranny car?

Well, if it won't go past 2k, that's probably not one rotor, as most will rev up just fine still. You said however that it 'torques' in park? Do the tires move at all while revving, or does it feel like the car is just twisting? Is your check engine light on? While driving and coming to a stop, does the car stumble and studder like you're braking the engine, or does it stop smoothly? I'm pretty sure the auto tranny's between series were wired up differently, and from what I've read about it they're quite a pain in the *** to change. It'd be easier to go with a 5 speed.

well its not my car... its a females car and she cant drive a stick. the car when in P feels like it has a load on it... not like a car when u put it in P that it goes to nutral but doesnt keep rolling. this 1 acts like its still in gear. when i said it wouldnt rev over 2k in park its just what i said... its almost as if the wheels are locked but the tranny is in gear.... if it had more power(old v8's )it would spin the tires power brakeing...or so it seams like..... im pretty sure the tranny is trashed... the fluid was burnt and it had to much in it. im just wondering if ill need a tranny or a tranny and torque converter. and are a sr4 and sr5 auto tranny the same?
