90GXL losing power off the hop
90GXL losing power off the hop
this is a partial cut and paste from the cold air intake thread in case anyone can help me with this problem:
"iv got this issue where when i pull off the line it goes all right for a fraction of a second, hesitates and then pulls forward again. feels like it just loses power, and then picks up again. with the duel exhaust and no cat converters i have im not sure how much my actual HP is and if this hesitation may be due to more HP than what can be handled. id be shocked if this car was over 200HP but im desperate to find out whats causing this.
i thought it might be the air filter but i dropped in a K&N and same problem. now i think maybe deposits in the throttle body or something holding things up(btw whats the best method/material to use to clean out the TB?). this has been plauging me from day 1 with the car."
anyone ever experience or know whats causing this? its holding the car back and i hate it!!!
thanks

Does this happen around 3800rpms? If so, it is the dreaded 3800rpm hesitation that you are seeing. The secondary injectors kick in at 3800rpms and sometimes the factory grounds aren't enough for the required power. Try adding an 8 gauge groundwire from the negative battery terminal to the chasis somewhere. It worked for me, and lots of others on this board.
what? rx7's have a 'dreaded infamous hesitation' too!!!
aaahhhhh the hesitation was one of the reasons i was gonna move away from the subaru instead of tryin to convince my parents to give it to me!!!!
i dont' want more hesitation
is it only the gxl stock engine? is it easily fixed?

Actually its all 2nd Gens, of any year or model. Not all of them do it...if it does, the ground wire usually fixes it...if not, there a few other places to put grounds, and few other fixes other people have tried and found to work for them. Just do a search for 3800rpm hesitation and you'll probably find a lot of info about it.
