90 GXL-runs great, won't idle in nuetral

My 90 GXL was running a little sluggish and didn't seem to want to idle. I figured it was clogged cats, put good cats on, now runs great, just dies everytime it is in nuetral. It will hold an idle for a little while upon starting, and as lond as I am driving it runs perfectly, just when I have the clutch in to long or stop for a light, it wants to cut out.
Any ideas?

The usual suspect is a vac leak.

Also the BAC may need checking and cleaning.

could be a bad gasket, not just an intake gasket, maybe a BAC gasket, or anything else that has a gasket

Hey Gene, use throttle body cleaner and spray all around the gaskets. When the idle goes up you found your leak........ The worst cause for that to happen ( I know from a certain 87) Make sure the snorkel is tight at the throttle body. All the bolts there and torked down.

Use water. It's much safter. Non-flammable and won't explode...

It makes the engine run "differently". It will either lower the engine speed, or make it stall.

You want something flammable because it will get sucked in and richen the mixture up, thus smoothing out the idle. You also want something that will evaporate quickly, and water takes far too long. I guess it depends on how much you like your hair...you could lose a little

Water has always worked for me. Using something flammable is just plain stupid, unless you want 3rd degree burns. I cannot in good conscience recommend that another person randomly spray carb cleaner or any other flammable liquid around their engine. Might as well just spray gasoline if you are going to use something flammable...

lol... come on, it wasn't that bad...

I have to admit though, spraying carb cleaner with the efan on is like spraying that stuff directly into your eyes
