Unhappy 90 GTU Exhaust Woes

Short story: Clutch went out. New clutch in. Driver's side underbody was damaged somehow, maybe in towing. Driver's side muffler damaged, dent in it, disconnected from Y pipe, had to take off. Been driving for many months with only one muffler. Within last month or so, passenger side muffler disconnects from Y pipe, yet still aligns to it.

Car has 120k or so miles, so the cat is probably clogged. Basically I need new exhaust, but money is very much an issue, as I am a poor college student.

I've been looking at the system from Rotary Performance
(http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/2catalog.cgi?cat=4&part=1) yet I don't know which size is best for my N/A GTU. Also I've been looking into mufflers, the best I could find was a pair of Bomz R-Spec mufflers on eBay for about 120 shipped. They have a 2.5" inlet and 3.5" outlet. Here's a link to one of the auctions (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2437528650)

I would really appreciate if I could get some feedback, my car has been needing this for a while.

Do you need to have cats in your area?

Doing without the cats will keep the costs down a lot.

As far as cat-back systems go, I have the Dynomax system on my car - and it is great. It isn't flashy, and doesn't have chromed 4" tips, but it sounds great and is cheap. I believe the tubing is all 2.25" or 2.5" (I can't remember which) and bolts up in the stock locations. As I said - it might not offer the most power gains, but it isn't too loud, and the price is right.

Nope, no need for cats here in Indiana...

If your poor, just go to a exhaust shop, let them know u don't need a cat (wink wink) and have them do a custom exhuast...cheap and just go with a single muffler. Not having to do the "Y" will save big bucks and you don't need it anyway...Saves weight also to go with a single...
Good luck/skill fellow Indiana guy!

Cats aren't needed in Indiana but who has been to the local muffler shops before said they prefer to put them on and you basically have to tell them that your car won't be driven on roads.

I've also been looking at a Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipe with Presilencer combo since I don't need cats. (http://www.fcstore.com/inc/pdetail?v=1&pid=501)

Would a custom install have something like a presilencer or resonator in it? I don't want a loud system, my car has been loud for a while with only one muffler and it resonates a lot.

About the single setup... I like the look of the dual setup better and wouldn't it be quieter and better for a N/A?

Sorry, I meant to say "My friend who has been to the local muffler shops"

Anyway, I would appreciate some input on the issue of cat vs. no cat and one muffler vs dual mufflers for a N/A RX-7. I don't want a rediculously loud exhaust but I want to see a performance gain over the stock exhaust. I'm not as poor as I make it sound. I am patient and can save up some money for a system that will benefit my car and last for a while.
