90 convertible w/Racing beat header
Hello every one I am new to the club I am the owner of a stock 1990 convertible RX7 with 92,000 miles. I am beginning to release some of the engines power have just ordered a Racing beat Streetable header and a Gray area Converter from Mazdatrix. I will be leaving the stock Y and mufflers till I can save the money for a Racing Beat cat back. What do you guys think am I going in the right direction to unlock the engines power and what would you do next?

Well you made the right move by getting a header and high flow cat first, that'll really open it up. A cold air intake would probably help more than any other little mod you could do to your car.
Do you plan on passing emissions? If not you can remove your airpump, thats a good 10lbs and its ran off a belt, so you might get alittle more power. You can remove your tow hooks aswell, thats about 10-12lbs of weight too.

Okay Amigo, the next thing to do is remove all the weight you can. If it doesn't make the car go, stop, or look good, take it out. No exceptions! My car lost over 400 pounds on this diet, and it drives so much better!

Now that the thread has been hijacked, you guys could just change the settings on your control panel to have avatars not show up.
And just so I post something on-topic, there's not much else to do for power for an N/A. Intake exhaust, if you want you can port the intake manifolds. There's always the TB mod, and some other little things. Other than that, an aftermarket EMS or some sort of fuel control will do wonders by leaning out the richness ofthe stock maps.

NA's have quick limits unless you go tearing into the engine and port it etc. Good 1st mods though, intake and exhaust... you're engine will have a chance to be heard like any good rotary should.

eccentric's got a good point...headers and a high flow cat will definately increase your noise level.
imo, the cat isn't a great thing...if you're gonna swap it out, you might as well put in a race pipe. i had one, wouldn't pass smog, so i eventually switched to a race pipe since i was going to have to swap it out to pass smog anyways.
but boy is it loud now!

What about an upgraded ECU after the exhaust and intake work? I got one for my N/A from Jet Performance and I tell you now, it was worth it.
Yes an upgraded/modified ECU will help out alot aswell.

I can't believe this hasn't already been said, but
at least when you have to replace the clutch, replace the flywheel with a lightened steel. Still decent drive ability, and you get more horses past the flywheel and to your rear wheels.
One other thing you might consider is replace the 3rd member with a LSD from an S4. Won't get more HP, but at least you'll get equal to both rear wheels.

Yes the ECU is on the list I am saving for a Haltech E6K. I had an APEXi S-AFC in my Prelude and it was awesome but I want more control over the ECU than a piggy back air flow computer or reprogrammed chip can offer.
If you do go standalone though, you will no longer need the restrictive AFM, getting rid of this should add a few ponies in itself.

Well today I started the install I have removed all of the stock exhaust components with no problems and little loss of blood. I have to pick up new bolts as the header and high flow cat from Mazdatrix did not come with any hardware I think that is kind of lame but oh well. I will post some photos for you all to see in the next few days.
