89 TII running slightly hot

when i sit and let my car idle for 10-15 minutes fully warmed up, the coolant temp sits at about 185*F or so... when i am cruising at about 75 on a hot day, the coolant temp sits around 200 and even gets up to 205*F....... i have a greddy FMIC and no underbelly tray and i was attributing part of my troubles to this, but i was wondering what everyone else's coolant temps were like with big FMIC's. and does an underbelly tray help that much?

Yes the tray makes an enormous difference. With all the stock ducting in place and stock clutch fan and shroud my temp has only gotten up to 87*C (188*F) while running hard. Normally it sits at 82*C (180*F) . I have a koyo also and none of the stock foam on the radiator or brackets. The hottest I have seen my temp gauge is 91*C (196*F) but that is after my car is turned off for a few minutes and the water isnt being circulated anymore.

Mod list in sig.

Get one from someone on the forum. I'm sure someone will hook you up for cheap. I just put two in the trash from a few parts cars...

the haltech is reading off the stock mazda coolant temp sensor, so who knows how far off it is (reads 5-10 degrees high i have heard) but it still never got this hot on my 91.

On my car with the Greddy VSPL, stock radiator, stock fan, Rmagic panel and under belly pan my car would run fine around town (88C) but as soon as I got on the interestate it would shoot WAY up to 94 - 96C. Koyo radiator with a stock fan fixed the problem.
