can you put 89 rx-7 tail lights(the round looking ones) on a 86 rx-7?

 

Yes. They bolt right in. I believe you may also need the licence plate holder, but someone else will chime in on that one.

A friend of mine that did the conversion said that you need the center piece also. From a dealership, that will be costly, so head for a junkyard.

Sweet, my info is correct. I'm not too much help in the S4-S5 body and interior differences.
Expect $200 for a set of used tail lights. Try Ebay and thepartstrader.com.

they don't bolt right in, you have to bend a lil bit of the body tai light support cuz the bulbs for the reverse lights stick out a lil inside the car
