89 rex Idle prob
when i start the car up when its cold it revs up real high (to about 3000 rpm) then goes down after a little while, but when i start it up then put it in gear the idle goes down to normal. when the cars warm and i start it up it does not do this. TPS? i dont know. how can i fix this? thanks in advance for any help
There is nothing wrong....this is how Mazda designed it. There is a device called the Accelerated Warmup System that is used to have a high idle to get the catalytic converters operational earlier than without the system. There are threads about this on the forum and a complete explanation in the factory service manual. When you shift into a gear with a cold engine, the system is defeated.
