89-91 radio surround in 86-88

Anybody have any experience swapping these? I have an 87 and have to replace the surround after it was recently vandalized. I've read the 89-91's are more sturdy than the frail plastic ones, but the vent's dont fit.

Any idea how hard it is to mod the 87 vent to fit the 89 surround?

Thanks

I installed the S5 stereo surround on my S4 TII (1987). The only thing I had to also do was get an S5 shifter surround, it doesn't mate properly with the S4 piece, plus the materials are different and it could look wrong. I'm pretty sure it fits in just the same, no modifications. I don't remember actually doing it, so it must have been really easy. I remember the **** that takes forever and pisses me off lol.

edit: I must have bought vents with the surround, making the swap easy

You must get the vents to match. They are completely incompatible. I kept my S4 shifter surround. The fitment and finish is fine.
