89-91 Instrument cluster (Speedo, tach, oil.. guages) into 87 body.

Has anyone successfully swap in an 89+ insturment cluster (speedo, tach, oil, fuel, temp) into an 87 body? Also the surround with the wipers and headlight switch.

I like the new updated look and higher redline.

I tryed putting it in, it plugs in but I can tell that mazda swap some of the connectors/ wire leading to it so. The temp gauged went up like it was the fuel guage but kept going. I know the temp and fuel got swap top to bottom.

The update surround didn't come with the cruise control arm so I was going to swap the old one into it an dit doesn't really fit. Look slike it might fit if I trim some parts of it in the inside.

Anybody tryed this?

Didn't we have one of these same threads last week?

Anyway yes it can be done, but involves taking apart the old connectors and swaping the series 4 pins to the right location.

I suppose what you really need to find is some wiring diagrams for the two cars and then just swap wires as necessary.

Did a search and haven't found a thread yet.

Does anybody have the thread so I can cheat and not waste time figuring out, thanks

Has any one put the 87 cruise control paddle into the instrument surround of an 89+, looks it need some triming to make it fit?

I got everything working except two thing.
THe oil pressure guage and some annoying buzzer, anybody with any insight into this. THe haynes manual is really only good for the 86-88 not the 89+. I don't have a 89+ manual with me, can anyone tell me what the wires colors are for?

Project done

Thanks icemark,

Finally with the help of the diagram I was able to finish the few wires I was unsure about.

The buzzer is gone and the oil pressure guage works after swapping out the unit with my old one.

The only wires left unconnected are the upshift light, alt warning light, and the fan control unit. None of these wires seem to be compatable with the updated unit which i'm going to leave out.
