'88 Vert won't start up or stop...well

Alright, my car just punched me in the face...hard. OK. Here's whats going on. A few weeks ago, I had to replace a brake rotor on the rear, so I did and put new pads on the back since the fronts are perfectly fine. So Monday when I drove to class, the pedal would go almost to the floor, and I would brake for crap. It has done things like this before, so I just went to class and came home and parked it. Tuesday morning, thinking the car would be fine, I get in and pedal goes to the floor. I pumped the thing 500000 times, nothing. I pop the hood and the reservoir is bone dry. $#!^! I grab fill up the reservoir, just so I can keep the car running til I have some free time to work on it. The pedal is still mushy, so I get in to turn on the car to move it so I can bleed the brakes in our shop. THE CAR DOESN'T START. WTF WTF WTF WTF WTF. I try to crank it, but the engine just spins and won't turn over. I checked for spark, I got that. My dad pulled off the fuel line from the motor and it didn't seem to have hardly any pressure. I've searched around the forums but most of the fuel filter stuff deals with the FD's. Would low fuel pressure cause the engine to not start up? Any help would be appreciated.

The answer to your question is yes, low fuel pressure will cause a no start condition...

Would the fuel filter be causing low fuel pressure?

In Line: Yes, it could. Get a line pressure reader (borrow one!) and check pressure before and after the filter.

In Tank: It could, but I doubt it, you can try it (FOR A VERY SHORT TIME) without the filter and see if that changes anything.

I read around on the filters and someone suggested replacing it every 2 years or so, and my looks like it came with the damn car, so I'm going to go ahead and replace it since its only like $20.

Since you're obviously leaking fluid somewhere, track that down & make sure no fluid has gotten into any electrical connectors and is causing your no start condition...Pay close attention to the gang of plugs below the master cylinder area...
