88 vert ECU, different than other N/As?

Ok, in the coming months, im planning to do a TII swap into my vert. Ive heard that the ecu for the N/A vert is different than the one for the N/A coupe. Is this true? What are the differences? Will i need to do some additional wiring, or retain the vert ecu as well as the TII ecu for stuff such as the power top?

Also, if i were to try to run an s5 13bt in my s4, what body-to-engine or body-to-ecu harnesses would be different and need to be changed?

The search yeilded a bunch of results on this. The 88 Vert ecu can be used as well as the stock harness with some repinning..

Don't attempt the S5 engine swap, in an s4 car that is.. I have done it and you have to reloom the WHOLE engine harness as well as the body harness.. Not fun... took 18 hours of electrical work...

On a S4, there are only two pin/wire differences between the Turbo and Non turbo, so you could use the stock vert harness and ECU and just run new wires and extend a couple of others, however it should noted that that the vert ECU is more for mileage than power.

You don't want to mix and match series. Doubles the work involved in the swap. You would have to change all the plugs that connect between the body and engine harness.

And the ECU has nothing to do with the power top. ECU = engine (or emissions) control unit.

And your bump has been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section. I am sure the reason that no one was replying was because this subject had been covered quite a few times before. You may wish to use the search function found in the upper right hand corner of the page next time.

Ok, sorry about not searching... i just didnt think of it.

After reading thru a bunch of the other threads, the ECU in my 88 vert will run an S4 TII motor without problems. There was still a little disparity on whether it would cut fuel or retard timing, have these functions been verified?

Also, it was mentioned that a couple of the wires were different, and would need re-pinning... which wires are these and where would their new home be? There were links in one of the threads that looked like they used to go to some diagrams showing this, but they are no longer active. Thanks again
