88 TII Slow through the RPM Range???

Ok guys i just bought a 88 TII today and it dosent seem to have any power...it runs good not smoke, starts right up, and idles perfect, and when u get on it the factory boost gauge is showing boost and u can kinda feel the turbo kick in, but the thing just feels slow and has a hard time even getting to like 6k rpms.... even at idle if u punch it, it dosent just jump up in the rpms it just kinds moseys on up there, but overall is very drivable. I mean if you dont get on it you would never know. One other thing i did notice is that if you get on it at like 3500 rpms it like pulls hard for a sec then just dosent......

It has all the factory exhaust everything with 133.000 miles on it...

What do you think it could be...please help me out on this....

and yes i did search but i really dont know what this is called. so what do u search for

Do a full tune up, I think it's in the FAQ, not sure though

mabey a really badly clogged cat?

edit:
Do a full 60K tune up, replacing all the fluids (including brake, clutch, tranny, engine oil, coolant, and rear end lube), spark plugs and cables, all filters (including fuel, oil and air), belts, any hoses that are leaking or bulging, and the O2 sensor. In addition if the car is more than 10 years old or has more than 120K miles on it, the Pulsation Dampener (or pimary fuel rail and integrated Pulsation Dampener on 89-91 FCs) should be also replaced

Thats what i was thinking is that the exhaust was plugged up or something, but its had a tuneup performed like a week ago, so i dunno exhaust is really quiet, i just remember my n/a used to rev up to redline just like that, but this thing takes a lil bit..

Yeah, go check to see if a cat is clogged. You could hollow it out, but you might want to get a FCD.

does the 88 TII have more than one cat, and if so what new cats can i put on there that wont raise up the boost, i want to keep it running stock, only think i plan on doing is putting some different mufflers to make it sound better, and a boost and a/f gauge

Do yall really think it is a semi clogged cat???

How do you check to see if its clogged?

Maybe its not getting enough fuel.

Only reason i suspect that is you say it pulls momentarily at 3500. Thats right about when your secondary injectors are coming on.

When they did a tune-up did they change the fuel filter?

I dont know of a foolproof way to check the cat without pulling it off, but usually they make a ton of noise when they're done, like little beads rattling around in a tin can. They always make some noise but there is a pretty dramatic difference between one that new and one thats falling apart and choking.

When I got mine did the same thing.

A few things to help:

New or clean old grounds

Replace all fusible links if they have any corrosion

Replace Fuel Filter

And the biggest which could make the biggest difference, Fuel Pump Re-Wire

All of these made a significant difference in my ride when I first purchased. I had the exact problem as you. First my Fuel pump went out, so I replaced it with FD fuel pump.....then pow it would stutter like a mother and choke. I thought it was in need of a re-wire because that is common wtih these cars.
Took a shot at it and it fixed the problem and took it to a new level with power. After doing the other things I suggested.....well the car drove nothing like when I first bought

EDIT:
someone just fixed their problem similar to yours by replacing the injector connectors, also a good injector cleaning by witchhunter.com may do the trick

Check that the outer set of throttle plates are opening when you put the pedal to the metal. You might have to remove the inlet duct to see them move or not. IF they don't move then that's your problem. IF not who knows. The bad catalytic converter sounds like a likely suspect too.
