88 s4 tII engine swap into 91 s5 na
i've read several threads on the board, including this:
https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-gen-archive-72/s4-na-turbo-swap-details-813825/
as well as the ideas behind keeping electronics for the series block for the car, etc (as described on the rotary resurrection website)
before saying this is more work than it's worth, i've already bought the engine so i need to make it work in my chassis. the engine is rebuilt and i'm not shy from extra work, i just want to make sure this is done correctly to avoid any unnecessary complications.
i have some questions and hopefully you guys can help clear them up:
1) its considered to be easier to keep the current (generation + model) NA EM harness and adapt the pinouts for the tII, rather than use a genuine tII harness and adapt that to the na.
-- is this still considered the "easiest/best" route to take if putting in a s4 harness to s5, but also now a tII engine into an NA chassis/harness of the previous series (s4 into s5 chassis)?
1b) will the modification of the s5 NA harness be the same as modifying an s4 NA harness for use in a s4 tII swap (without the need for resistors -- see #3)
2) the other harness (non em) will require other modifications correct?.. things like the alternator connection (s5 NA alternator to s4 tII alternator) etc. anyone have some insight into these?
3) provided i do use my s5 NA harness, i shouldn't need resistors in line to an 88 tII engine provided the injectors are stock high imp
4) seeing that a 3rd party boost gauge is usually used, im just using my s5 NA cluster and doing the simple pinout change (w/ plug change) should be fine and hey, volt meters are cool. however if this isn't a good idea i do have the stock s4 boost sensor and could put in the s4 tII cluster with working boost.
5) we've removed the dash so access to all the wires and harnesses. what underneath the dash will require reworking now that i'm going to be using an s4 tII ecu? is it better to use the s5 logicon or should i swap over to a s4 logicon? provided i chose one over the other, can i swap out a smaller wire or will it require repinning?
provided anyone local in NJ has done a similar swap and can lend their knowledge/ assistance, please PM me.
i plan on documenting this entire process for reference to anyone else in need, so i thank you for your time/contributions.
