88" s4 NA : Intake manifold question .

Hello , i have bought an engine like the topic says . And discoverd the following .

: 88 s4 6pi
: weber dcoe sideraft with RB upper , and original lower intake manifold

Problem :

As you can see on the pics , the lower part of the manifold must be wrong , because the manifold does not cover / block up , the area marked RED , and is making a major exhaust leak .

I guess it must be some differences between the years/models , so that another 6port lower intake manifold will have the extra material to block that area .

OR is something else not matching in this combo .

Thaks for any inputs .

That's got to be the wrong LIM, are you sure you got it from that engine?

Just so you know, that hole is for the port air solenoid (emissions crap) and you could probably get away with jbwelding it shut

That RED part is adjacent to the rectangular opening on a SERIES FIVE or a TURBO INTERMEDIATE housing.

The SERIES FOUR intermediate housing has a round hole in that area of the INTERMEDIATE housing and in that hole is a FREEZE PLUG i.e. no opening in the RED area.

That rectangular hole is where the ACV air enters the intermediate housing passage.

Like the above said, just block the hole off in the intermediate housing housing.

Attached is a jpg of a SERIES FOUR non turbo intermediate housing. The Freeze plug is missing out of the round hole,.

You can see a dark rectangular area in that picture and THAT is where there is a open hole on series five n/a and also on series four turbos.

Just adding value to the answer already given, no more, no less.

Just as general information, I put a turbo inake manifold on a series four n/a engine. In order for the ACV to work, I used a rotary file to gut that *Dark* rectangular area in the jpg but left the bottom half of the freeze plug in place. So now the ACV is functional. ACV never cut caused a power problem on any engine.
