88 RX-7 Problems starting/ good battery/ no problmes with starter motor/ just cranks/
Hey
The only way my 88 RX-7 will start if it is givin a rolling start. I had a battery test done and it says the battery is good. There dosent seem to be any problems with starter moter. It will crank and crank and crank and thats all it does. I even tryed the good ol`e fuse trick where you take out the fuel pump fuse then you put it back it and yea no change it just crank and cranks dosent turn over. Any ideas...
thanks
zac

So it will start if you roll it? Sounds like a flooding or low compression problem.
Lots of info on flooding if you search "flood". A fuel pump cutoff switch is the short term bandaid.
Low compression can also make engines hard to start. A compression test will let you know. Search "compression test".

Alright, i have the same problem. My car has been sitting for about 4 days due to a water pump issue, and then a starter issue. After i replaced the water pump and the starter the car just cranks. I think it might be flooded because i smell gas in the exhaust. I dont think its a compression issue becbause the car ran like 4 days ago. I tried the EGI fuse trick, and cranked for about 2 minutes on and off.. and that didnt work, can someone please help me?

It may be seriously flooded. Do the EGI fuse proceedure, but also put about an ounce of oil into each leading spark plug hole. Crank, then repeat and oil it again. The oil will help absorb the excess fuel and restore compression.
