88 GXL LSD - half-shaft popped out the left side... confused

so i decided to do a burnout the yesterday, and sure enough - *POP* - F&#* my life...

left it there for the night and towed it home in the morning..

note this picture below (thanks to NJGreenBud for the photo i stole from his thread hahah) this "halfshaft(correct?)" popped right out on my left side - still bolted to the shaft and intact.

i immediately figured that the LSD was broken and I would need a replacement,
until i read a couple minutes ago that these things are removed with a prybar?!?

i worked on getting the LSD out for awhile today and got stuck when it came to the mount up in the front. i came back to the house and read about dropping the subframe - at which point i quit for the day.

im just wondering if my LSD is salvage-able or destroyed - ?

if it is destroyed - what can i replace it with ? only another 88 GXL LSD ? or will a TII LSD fit ?

I do not know much about the inner workings off the diff to tell you if its salvageable or not. However I can tell you that you can use any N/A diff. The Turbo II is bigger and will need the TII halfshafts and a custom driveshaft.

Just put the halfshaft back in and tap it with a hammer till it seats. These are only PRESSED in, no c-clips.

okay, sounds simple enough...
but does it have to align with a gear or anything?

i still think (although its gonna suck to have to do) that i should pull the LSD from the car to do this, to make sure everything is okay.
