Ideally, what you would do is put in the 89 engine with the 89ecu and sensors etc... I think that would be easiest.

It is possible to put the engine in w/ the 88 ecu, but requires much more work. I'll be doing the same thing with a turbo engine. I plan on using the 89 block with all the 87 (in my case)sensors, manifolds, front cover (mech OMP vs electric) etc.

good luck!

Short answer, yes it's possible.

Long answer, you'll still need a lot of 89 stuff, and in the end, you're really better off going all 89 or staying all 88.

I used on mine:

88 Injectors
88 Harnesses (all 3)
88 ECU
(I'm not doing this, but you'd need to)
88 OMP and Front Cover
88 Throttlebody and TPS
88 AFM
88 CAS

89 block
89 Intake
89 Flywheel
89 Waterpump and Housing (not required)
89 solenoid tray and fuel hardlines (under the intake, holds the upper intake plenum to the engine. Not required, but you'll have to fab something if you don't)

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope that helps.
