88 convertible

I was hoping that i could get some advice.

I looked at an 88 convertible with 118K, it had big fat exhaust pipes(i don't like them would probably replace) a racing clutch, runs well, body good, top is poor doesn't leek but has rips. How much to replace the mufflers with quieter ones? I didn't exactly like the racing clutch either. It's too tight, getting caught with this car during rush hour would not be fun. I can probably get it for about $2500, is this car worth it?

As a 88 'vert owner, I can say yes. Mufflers can be done relatively inexpensively. The clutch is a pretty easy job, the top can be rather expensive, but if you drive with it down as much as I do, it isn't any very noticable. Mine has 148k on it and as long as you keep your oil changed religously and beat it the way it needs, , you'll get plenty more enjoyment out if it. I've had a LOT of cars in 8 years of driving and none have been more enjoyable than my rex on a warm day with the top down and listening to my car screaming at 6500. Any other questions, feel free to ask.

Get a compression check and if it checks out good, that's a good price.

The top can run you anywhere from ~ $600 - 800 (possibly even less depending on the top you get and which parts need replacing) if you replace it yourself to as much as you want to spend to have someone else do it and depending on the top material you choose(cloth, vinyl, etc.) I'm looking at ~$1300 for a new cloth top and headliner this winter.

Droptoprx has it right though, when the weather is nice there's nothing more fun or relaxing than blasting around with the top down.

It's easily worth double that if it is a NICE example. I paid $6k for mine 3 years ago. Fun factor is tough to beat, although it is the slowest of the FCs.

Don't worry too much about being slow. Since you look cool in on of these things, you want to go slow enough for people to gaze as you motor by. I have yet to find a female that does not like this car. I always ask, "Honey wanna go topless"?
