Hi everyone. I have a '88 10th AE that has been sitting for about 12 years. I have been working on getting it running and was finally able to start it last night. After taking it for a quick drive up and down the street I smelled what seemed to be a belt or something. After opening the hood it appears there was whiteish smoke coming from the area of the turbo. I was debating taking the turbo off and getting a rebuilding kit for it. From what I was reading the turbo RX-7's had 2 different turbos, can anyone tell me which one would be on the AE edition and where would be the best place to get a rebuilding kit? THANKS!

 

the rebuild parts for both series 4 1986-1988 and series 5 1989-1991 Hitachi HT-18S is the same. however i doubt that is your issue, probably just some animals nest under the heat shield is burning off. i'd blow out the area with compressed air and be sure there is no coolant leaks or any other leaks onto the turbo.
