88’ Vert – handling problems

Ok,

I have been looking at the following shocks:

TOKICO BU3633

KYB GR-2 235012

KONI 8041-1111

KYB AGX 741025

TOKICO HU3633

Being budget minded; what would be best for my Vert?

If it's just a OEM replacement go with the cheapest set.
If you want some performance without the hassle of adjustability, go with the Tokico HP's (TOKICO HU3633, I think).
If you want to mess with the adjustable stuff, go with the KYB AGX's.

Hey Guys,

I’ve done some searching and can’t seem to find the answer.

My 88’ Vert seems to be handling like a snake, it slides out very easily going around corners.

The only noticeable thing visually is that my rear wheels are “toed out” a bit, like this:/ \

Any suggestions? Could it be that my differential doughnuts are flat?

Also, is there anyone in Las Vegas that knows what they are doing for RX-7’s?

Thanks!

Your car is tuned for drifting....
Thats why your rear wheels are like / \
When you change the angle of the rear suspension like that the car drifts great.

Mine slides around turns at high speeds, If the rpms are really high I get a lot of slip. I don't drift because I don't know how (properly) and even if I did I wouldn't take the chance of hurting someone else by acting stupid. If its too much slip for you to control I really don't have any advice cause I'm a technical newbie. I do like to drive and I'll drive anything I can get behind the wheel of. If this is a new thing to your RX and you never had this problem before than its definatly somethings up, if its always done that I would just practice and get used to it.

Ive been on this board for a long time and rarley post but I have to say this. Its not tuned for drifting. After 16 years the stock suspension starts to sag and causes changes in camber. Thats why his wheels are like / \. People and their obsessions with "Jspec" and drifting and everything Japan just amaze me. I really dont understand the obsession. 90% of the time the "jspec" part is the same as the American spec. And a lot of the times when it isnt it doesnt mean it is any better or makes your car faster or cooler. If you can explain the obsession to me I really would appreciate it.

To answer your question go with what RETed said.

I disagree. The vert handles like ****. I have one and I will be the first to tell you. I am dropping some coin into my suspension this month as kind of a stage 2 for my vet/t2 project. I am getting the
RB engine brace
sway bars F/R
sway bar end links
ss brake lines
ss clutch line
corksport front and rear strut bar
cs toe steer eliminator
KYB AGX with eibach springs. I know they say that the vert is to heavy. They will be better than the old stock springs anyday.
This should be a big improvement over a old stock worn out setup anyday

Try and track down Harry Nieves at Empire, if he's still around in Vegas.
He's a straight up guy.

I'm not sure who your disagreeing with? Sure the Vert could stand an upgraded suspension but I can't think of any car that wouldn't be better with some performance equiptment. And I wouldn't go as far as saying the vert "handles like ****". I mean maybe compared to like an evo 3 or to a Porche 911.

I'm glad to see someone building up their vert. You're gonna have to post pics when your done and maybe do a write-up for the rest of us.

Quick question:

I just took off one of the shocks and I am able to push it down by hand, and it stays down. Also, there seems to be a residue of grease.

Any of this seem normal?

They're dead, if they stay down like that. i'd suggest to get new ones -- I'm not real sure which ones though as I'm not a expert in that department.

If you happen to buy them -- would you mind posting up here and letting us (well, me....lol) how they are? My 'vert still has the stock suspension, and I believe I'll be getting some new suspension soon (once I get the GXL running).

Thanks!

if you're talkin about rear camber only like that being front camber isn't, that's a super super understeer.

Sure,

I spoke to the place that I purchased them: http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com

With these shocks it won't be an issue.

By the way only $87.00ea!

Your saying they told you that the shocks are so good that it doesn't matter if the springs are shot or not? Does that even make sense to you or does it sound like he is trying to sell you something. Try me it makes a big difference

For what it's worth, I'm on my second '88 vert and on both the rear end had a tendency to break free when pushed. Very pronounced in a left turn. I changed out the 3.90 open for a 4.10 LSD and there was a significant improvement in the handling.

Ok, I just installed the KYB AGX's and all I can say is WOW!! My baby handles like a dream in comparison.

I'd have to agree, I did the exact same thing.
