How can you be so sure? Here is a brochure from 87

Sport is listed with Highback Reclining Bucket Seats, with the Twill Upholstry being standard only on the Turbo

well then that means I have 2 sources of brochures for the 87 Rx7 to be wrong, because both of them do not list an SE, and the Sport is not listed with Twill Upholstry..Maybe thats an 88 brochure?

No dude, I have the brochure in my hand as we speak. If it was from 1988 there would be no listing for the Sport because it was replaced by the GTU.

This is really weird huh? I knew I wasn't crazy!

Maybe there were two versions of the brochure in 1987?

looks like it..maybe one for the early model 87s and one for the late model(in your case, which was 01/87 right?) that would make sense...

2 different brochures could be possible. there should be numbers on the back of them, an order code or something, my 88 brochure has a part number or 9999-92-010R-88 lates Matt22

And only the 88 GTU had the smallest primary injectors also? 480cc?

they were 460, the same as all N/A FCs, not 480cc

Hmmm, Okay I may be wrong, there may have been a late interior change that I was not aware of, I will do some research tomarrow with my buddy from Irvine and find out more. I suspect that it was about the same time as the injectors swithed and oyther minor mechanical things changed.

What was the last 6 digits of your VIN?

#532564, let me know what he says about my car.

Hey we all make mistakes buddy, even the mighty Icemark. The funny thing is that before this thread I thought all Sports had the T2 interior so thank you for enlightening me.

Hmmm,

According to Mazda the FB43 and FB69 models (S4 Sport/GS/GTU w/o and w/sunroof respectivly) switched at 528625 to the shiny semi-polished look wheels and other"minor mechanical and interior changes" were made. This is the same time that the Luxury model was re-named the SE in the USA. These changed lasted until the last of the 87 models (#550169) was made.

Did you also have the shiny semi-polished wheels?

It is intresting that I had never seen, nor heard of these 4200 (or so) Sports made this way. I will have to update my records.

As you can now tell, my post was not a bogus one. Yes, I also have the polished wheels and a glass sunroof. Do you happen to know more specifically what other changes were made? Thank you for looking into it.

Glass sunroof was a dealer installed option if it doesn't say Pacific on it. The non-Pacific ones were part of the Finish Line accessories sold at dealers.

The injector impedance also changed at that time, and the fuel map was altered slightly (you should have a n327 ECU in there, not a N326 as all the other 86 and 87 models came with).

As far as interior changes it just looks like fabrics. I added your copy of the brochure to the What came with what sticky as a 87.5 brochure, although (and I mentioned this to a couple other people as well) I suspect this 87.5 exterior/interior change was a 49 state change and not applicable to the Californian models. Mazda can't confirm that however, as the records are too incomplete that long ago.

Thanks for the information Icemark, you really do your homework.

By the way, do you think that your buddy at Mazda could gain access to the number of 323 GTs sold here in the United States in 1988? The GT was only sold here for that year and rumor is for only about 6 months or so.
