87Sport, 88GTU same car?

Other than the 88s LSD was there any other difference?

The 88 GTU was next years version of the Sport. It got power mirrors, upgraded (GXL style) carpet and sound insulation, Turbo seats (vs the Sports base style seats) a new rear spoiler, and a LSD.

Other than that, yes they were the same. They used the heavy duty suspension that the Turbo later came with, and the aero kit (again that the turbo got in 88)

You could check by reading the "what came with What" sticky thread at the top of this section, but no, the 88 GXL did not come stock with any sort of spoilers or aero kit.

Actually it did. I have every receipt since it came off the boat in '87 because the previous owner (a middle-aged woman) bought the car new. Judging by the condition the car was in when I bought it from her, she wasn't the type to swap mint Turbo II seats into an already perfect interior. I can take pictures if you can't admit that you are wrong on this one.

Sorry, someone switched seats on it.

I purchased my 87 Sport brand new, I know that they didn't have that seat option. That seat didn't come on a N/A model until 7/87 production.

Here is my windows sticker:

You'll note that the seat is the reclining seat, not the reclining sport seat.

Post your window sticker.

Does the material of the doors match the center section (not the bolster section) of the seat??? That is just one of the determining factors of original seats.

Next thing you'll be telling me that Sports came with power mirrors or power windows (of course they didn't).

Here is a picture of the Sport interior from the 87 brochure... again it shows the standard seat that came in the 86 and 87 sport, it is in the Striped velour upholstry:

Of course the Turbo (and only the turbo- not any other models) came with the twill upholstry:

as listed here:

Now compare that to the 88 brochure... notice that both the GTU and the Turbo had the twill seats:

The S4 Turbo seats only came in Twill or leather, no other S4 FC came with the same seats except the 88 GTU, which also had the twill interior.

Man Issac, how many times do we have to go through this about the Sport and what it came with??? Maybe if you purchased the car new like I did...But wait you were like 3 years old when the 87 Sport was made...

You'd be wrong as well. Post a window sticker.

And the glass sunroof was a dealer option, not a factory option. It was also commonly replaced with a Pacific Products glass replacement.

If the car is a Sport, what do you think the odds of a dealer swapping the door panels and seats from a 88 GTU into a 87 Sport???

Pretty low...

And why do I say the 88 GTU, because it came with manual windows just like the Sport, so you would need the 88 GTU door panels to match the turbo seats.

I have the "twill" seats as pictured on the Turbo and they match the rest of the interior including the door panels. I don't know if I have a window sticker (not exactly a receipt) but I'll check on that and get back to you with pictures as well. Oh yeah and my car was produced in 01/87.

You're wrong on this one Icemark,
Isaac

Prove it, post a window sticker... otherwise your car had its seats (and probably the door panels) swapped.

I mean look at the brochure for 87... tell me the number of cars with twill upholstry???

Did the Sport have twill upholstry in 87??? NOPE. Did any S4 FC besides the Turbo and 88 GTU have twill upholstry??? NOPE. Not from the factory.

Somehow I doubt that this lady would go to all the trouble of swapping interiors considering the fact that she took the car to Mazda for every oil change, not exactly the type to modify the interior. Oh yeah.....I forgot that you have personally inspected every S4 ever sold in the United States.
By your logic the 1990 GTUs doesn't exist because it wasn't pictured in the sales brochure for that year.

As I said I will look for the window sticker and provide pics, but I don't have a digital camera so it might take awhile.

Why? Because he can scan a Mazda sales brochure?

When someone starts posting bogus info, I will call them on it as soon as I see it. There are too many threads with people saying," I can break my rear end loose and leave two tire trails so I must have a LSD" or "oh my car came with this" when they are the 3rd or 4th owner and really don't have a clue how the car came from the factory.

However Sports and S4 GTU models happen to be my specialty, since I have owned both, bought brand new from the dealer and still have my window stickers.

Something that few owners on this section can even say they were old enough to drive when these car came out; well alone what they came with. So when I do know something I will post it. And when it is made up info, I won't.

Your car is modifed and not factory stock. Sorry that, that upsets you. Scanning a brochure really has nothing to do with it. I own most of the brochures, that I got from the dealer when the cars were new and being sold.

I am the second owner of my car.

The RX-7 Sport and GTU you bought do not exactly represent all the Sport and GTU models ever sold.

You seem to be proud of the fact that you are old, congradulations.

My car is not stock because I have modified it, however the interior was stock when I bought the car. Do you by chance have a brochure from 1987? I only ask because I do and it lists the "twill" upholstery as standard on the RX-7 Sport, how interesting!

Go to this site and click on the specs image to enlarge it:

Can someone post it here in the enlarged format? I'm new to this.
