Well there was the 87, 87.5 and 88 models in that time period.

from my website:

Mazda made several noticeable changes to the mid 1987 production. The Luxury model was renamed the SE, The Sport model received an upgraded interior from the Turbo, and most notably all versions of the RX-7 received a new high impedance fuel injectors and a slightly re-mapped engine computer. All non-turbo models also changed 5th gear from the .711 found on the earlier models to the .697 found on all later non turbos.

All 88 models again received revised idiot/warning light clusters (now with a black out look for fewer reflections) other minor wiring updates, new three spoke steering wheels, new black plastic rear model emblems (to replace the stickers found on the '86 and '87 models) and updated carpeting. Wheels were revised for 88 to have a new machined finish on the GXL, GTU, and SE; while the Turbo II received new slightly lighter and reshaped wheels with that same polished, machined finish.

The 88 Turbo came with the 86-87 Sports aero package as well as a new wing style spoiler (often called the GTU style), and speed sensitive power steering was found on the majority of Turbos (the 87 it was an option and only on about 50% of the models).

The 87 Turbo did not come with any spoilers or aero packaages standard.

Please read the Stickies at the top of this section as the what did the RX-7 come with will have the exact specs.

speaker grills were the same, and based on audio package.
