Hey I have an 87 TurboII with some mods, last week it would crank but wouldn't start, my father started it a week later and it finally came back to life. Now just today I shut off the car to get gas, when I tried to start it again it would crank but wouldn't start. I tried using my anti-flood(fuel pump switch) to unflood it, but it wouldn't help. With the anti-flood switch on, it would start up VERY rough on one rotor, then when I turned the switch off it would backfire VERY loudly and smoke from the exhaust, and it wouldn't stay running unless my foot was floored on the gas, and it wouldn't clear out. I tried pulling the EGI fuse and bumping the starter, and that had no effect either. This is the first time that the anti-flood switch had no effect, usually when it would flood out when hot, I would use the anti-flood switch and that would get it to start right up, this time it didn't seem to budge and this is what worries me. I decided to let it cool down for a few hours and let it regain some compression to help unflood it, but it still didn't start. Can anyone help me out here?? I think that the engine finally might have just blown a seal, causing a major loss of compression, and this is why it can't un-flood with the fuel pump switch. It sounds like its only running on 1-rotor and it pops and backfires a lot and shakes horribly, how can I tell whether it's just flooded severley or the engine blew a seal?? I always though that the anti-flood switch was guaranteed to unflood a rotary??? What's going on??

how is your fuel ciut off switch hook up. I was given some advice on hoe to hook it up but it didn't work. so what i did was located the fuel pump wires in the trunk bay under the carpet and cut the black ground wire and hooked up a switched there.

what i also experienced was when i used this switch sometimes it didn't work so i left the fuel pump off while trying to start the car. then it would start. as soon as i got it started I would then switch the fuel pump on.

but your problem seems odd cause what your explaining sounds like a different problem. check your plugs and do a compression check first.

How old are your spark plugs? Take your spark plugs out, examine them to see if it is really flooded. Are the spark plugs wet? If they are wet then while you have the spark plugs out pull the EGI fuse and crank it over a few times, this will clear out the gas in the chambers. also look at how wet the plugs are, I have seen plugs that had to be burnt with a lighter or clean the real good with brake cleaner.

If your spark plugs look old or worn out replace them. Spark plugs are very important on a rotary.

Secondly check for vacuum leaks like some hose that has came off, probably around the turbine. This could also produce the symptoms you described.

don't forget to check you tps and cas. make sure they are working and correctly set....but like the other two posts said, it could be your plugs.
