87 turbo II vs. 01 GTI 1.8t bench racing

As the titles states my buddy has an 87 turbo II with a turbo back exhaust (2.5" I think), intake, and I'm sure he has a boost controller + bov, and any other inexpensive mods available to these cars. I have an 01 GTI with 2.5 inch turbo back exhaust, intake, upgraded Diverter valve(BOV), and chip. I just picked up my car in December and his car is in storage for the winter so we haven't run but we plan to, come spring. Anyway I'm curious who you think will win/what kind of power he'll be putting down. Granted I'm at RX7 club so I expect some bias but I figured this would be the best place to come for info on his car.
Other (average) GTI's with similar mods put down around 200 whp 250wtq and run low 14.s. I'm anticipating a good race, he has the advantage off the line w/ RWD but his car has around 100k miles (vs my 38k) so that may be to my advantage.

I'm really just curious what you guys think?
(btw, what does his car weigh?)

Well, my friend has a Jetta with the 1.8 T that's done the same mods to your car is good competition to my turboII. I have a downpipe and cone filter and I take him on the launch and up until 3rd gear. 1/4 mile he gets ahead of me at the last minute. I understand they're different cars - seeing how the Jetta is designed to go get groceries and all that, but that should give you an idea.

And I do believe his car weighs something like 2800

After poking around here a little more I think I'm gonna get my *** handed to me. The guy I'm racing is "Husemoller" (another member here) and I see that his car has 1**k miles but his engine was rebuilt w/ only ~50k on it so that advantage is gone. The fastest 1/4 mile time for a GTI w/ just bolt-ons is 13.2 with around 225whp. Our cars weigh about the same and it sounds like he is going to be close to this with what he has now. Oh well it's all in fun, and maybe he can't drive!

vr6's (at least the 12-valves) are dogs. So you can't really compare the two.

I beat a 1.8t a stock one, with my 86 na i ran 15.2 he did 15.5, i know they can run better i've seen a stock run a 14.9, but it should be a very good race both cars are fairly even when new, it might be a driver vs drive race and not 7 vs vdub

The 87's run less boost so with the exhaust maybe around 9-10psi?

The 87's stock have like 180hp but with exaust hit 200 easy.

If he has a boost controller then estimate another 1-3psi.

If he doesn't have bigger fuel intjectors or fuel pump then he isn't in the mid 200hp range.
Our injectors are said to max out around 11psi(People can run higher though).

I'm thinking you will beat him. He probably has 180-200rwhp.

Now of you were doing a real race around a track or something then you would get killed but 1/4 isn't very good with our cars.

He might do a low/mid 14

My car has plans of about 220-230hp and I have 2.5 down pipe to 3 inch exhaust and a bigger fuel pump and cleaned injectors but it's a fresh rebuilt engine and turbo. I figure it will do a low 14 very high 13(if lucky)

you have a huge disadvantage at the launch. The 13.2 GTI you talked about, are you talking about Joseph Bellamy (KrautFed on vwvortex)? He took out his entire interior save the driver's seat, and had drag radials, and is a bad-*** at launching the car. If you think you can pull some 1.9 60ft times, then the field would narrow. But a TII with some good street tires should be pulling ~2.1s, where as a shitty FWD launch will net you ~2.5s.

I know who krautfed is (I think he blew his motor w/ Nitrous didn't he?) The guy who ran 13.2 (and is planning on hitting 12's) is "Vdubndizzy" but there are a bunch of guys hitting 13's with just bolt-ons... I doubt I'll put the time into hitting those numbers on the stock turbo. I plan on a t3/t04 or a GT28RS upgrade in the next year and I don't have the time or the skill yet to pursue something like that.

I rode in Husemoller's car last fall and it was quick but since driving mine I don't know. I definitely give him the advantage but I think it's too close to call until it actually happens.

Used to have a mk4 gti...definately race him from a roll. My best 60' with that car was 2.27, actually the torque ends up hurting you. Also, take out your back seats, it takes two seconds with a flathead screwdriver. 60 lbs right there!
