87 TII starts... dies (still searching)
Hello once again guys,
I need some advice once again and some ideas on this. The other night driving in this order:
-going downhill, flash of light in the floor board, car cuts off
-try to start, wouldn't. Check fuses, 15A Engine fuse is blown, replaced it
-starts and fires up, then dies about 3 seconds after
-try to push start, car wouldn't even fire up when letting the clutch out
-checked for vacuum leaks, there are none, still starts and dies.
so next day...
-check once again for vacuum leaks... none to my knowledge.
-turn the key on, starts, fires up and while holding the afm door open, car still shuts off 3 seconds later
-turn ignition to on... hold afm door open and cannot feel the fuel pump on, am I supposed to?
-replaced the afm with a good one to my knowledge and still the same problems.
The night that it happened. I noticed the fuel pump relay had slid out of the rubber boot that mounts it to the hanger... so the relay still being plugged in was swinging about exposed and hanging.
I am going to grab a fuel pump relay and just pop it in tomorrow after work and see if that fixes it. If anyone knows of what to test... please list and I'll look up the correct readings when I can get access to a multimeter.
Thanks for looking and if you have any ideas please share. Thanks.

I think you're on the right track though; it does sound like a fuel problem. I'd suggest the AFM, but you said you swapped it already with no effect. From the sound of it, everything is fine when cranking, but once it tries to idle, the fuel pressure is gone.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I had my hand on top of the pump itself w/ the ignition on and didn't feel any fuel running through the feed line (like spreading my fingers apart when I pressed the line). I didn't feel it running either and I know it should when the ignition is on I'm pretty sure?
I think I remember helping a friend rid a TII of some bad gas one time doing it that way b/c it had a shitload in it.
But is there a possibility that the fuel pump relay could be a cause of this? Thanks again for responding.
