87 TII Questions.

Well, it seems that i have found an 87 TII for sale for $2500. the guy is in need of cash badly and he wants to sell it fast. i havent had a chance to look at it. my privious 7 was an NA and i havent really fooled around with too many turbo cars yet. i really want my next 7 to be a TII so here are my questions.

what are there any main issues with an 87 TII?
what should i look at when i look the car over? mainly dealing with the turbo and intercooler

and just any useful tips you may have when i go and look the car over. i have checked the FAQ and a few other threads but i thought there may be a few other tibits of info you can offer. anything is helpful.

thanks.

2500 is a good deal even if there are some issues to attend to.

You should be able to get a good feel for how solid it is by driving it.

Good luck and don't rice it out,

thats one thing im worried about. ive seen the car breifly before and it had some ricer rims on it and a ugly gold paint job.

but no worries from me about rice. my 86 GXL was rice free.

Test drive it and make sure it boost cleanly to 5psi, or about halfway on the metric mm/hg guage in the car. Make sure there are no hesitations. No drips or any of that junk. If you want you can pull the intake and check for shaftplay on the turbo, if it compressor wheel moves just a tiny bit thats ok. If it moves alot, thats bad. Make sure it goes into all gears nice and smooth.

Another thing to check is when you drive it, make sure it doesn't hesitate around mid range rpms. I forget exactly when the secondary injectors kick in, but if there's a hesitation there, you're going to have to replace the o-rings on the injectors, since they'll be leaking. And one more thing, drive the car around, and warm it up properly, then see if it has hot start issues. I really don't know how to fix that, because mine fixed it's self. I've been using the car as my daily driver since Feb, and I've only had the problem 3 times.
