87 TII: Gas guage question

When tank is full, it will drop down to half a tank normally, then drops almost directly to E afterwards..So I thought it may be the floater, funny thing is though, the Low Fuel Light still works normally? Do I need a new guage, or would it still be the floater(maybe 2 diff sensors?)? Thanks

i think all cars do that. if you look at the actuall miles from 3/4 to 1/2 thne fron 1/2 to 1/4 you will notice that they are very close. its all in your head. in my experience at least.

Mine does exactly the same thing, exept I don't know if my light works cause I never let it get that low. Someone told me it's probably the sending unit but it soo damn expensive, I'll just let it be. 90 GXL.

The Fuel Low Light is from a Thermistor on the tank unit.

The Gauge reading is from the float on the tank unit. At the top of the Float arm, you can remove some metal covering and THEN you'll see the POT with the WIPER that determines how the gauge reads. THAT pot with float is probably BAD but you can buy a new one from the Mazda dealer or Mazdatrix.com

Chances are slim to none that the gauge in the cluster is bad.

Go to this thread https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...ighlight=float and you'll see about halfway down the page some jpg's of the tank unit and the parts involved.
