Get someone to install a fuel pump kill switch for you. Then when it floods kill the fuel pump and try to start it, once it starts running after about a second hit the fuel pump

never mind the kill switch--pull the injectors and have then checked/serviced. only costs about $100 and it is the real fix to the problem, not just a "band aid" like the switch is

If it's only an occasional problem then a fuel pump cut switch is your friend (search for a how-to, there are dozens). Plan to remove the injectors soon and have them professionally serviced. Beyond that it could be the first signs of low compression and a rebuild.

In the mean time, unflooding is done thus:
1. Pull the 30A EGI fuse under the hood to disable the injection system, or turn the fuel pump switch off.
2. Push the gas pedal to the floor and hold it there (very important).
3. Crank the engine over for 5-6 seconds (never more than 10 seconds at a time or you'll overheat the starter motor).
4. Reinstall the fuse or turn the fuel pump switch back on and try to start the engine without touching the gas pedal.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 if necessary (this usually works).
6. After 3-4 unsuccessful attempts, give up before you flatten the battery.
7. Remove the leading (lower) spark plugs and squirt a small amount of ATF in the holes.
8. Try to start it. It will almost definitely start this time, and will smoke like a bastard for a minute.

Thanks all ,will try the injector thing but in the meantime I think my fuel pump has died on me, no noise and it is a rusty mess at the tank

The fuel pump will only run if the engine is being cranked or is running. There's a safety switch in the airflow meter that kills the pump if there's no airflow. There's a yellow plug next to the RHS strut tower that can be jumpered to bypass the safety switch for testing purposes. Don't forget to remove the junper wire before driving the car.
Rust in the fuel tank is not a good thing, and can lead to clogged filters and fuel starvation. I'd remove the tank and flush it clean. Replace the low-pressure filter on the pump and the high-pressure filter in the engine bay.

Push start it put it in 1st hold in clutch get it going sorta fast and then pop the clutch has always worked for me.

Car sat for over 2 years hooked it to my jeep and pulled it down the street left clutch out and just started nice and easy at about 3000 she fired and smoked like hell but hasn't giving me any problems in the last 500 miles.
