Exclamation 87 (non turbo) 13b SEAL help

hey guys. i just singed up today cause i just grabbed a 1987 rx7 (non turbo) w/ auto trans for 500.

thought i might as well throw in a swap or a turbo or something.

i dont know jack about rotary engines so if yall could help me out that'd be great.

the guy im buying it from says it has bad seals (?) and that if you put auto trans fluid in somewhere that it would swell them up and it would be drivable.

i have no idea what the seals are...

i would like to get this motor fixed and in drivable condition before i swap it for a 2.0l

which brings me to my next question.

are there any swaps that CAN NOT be put in a 87 FC?

to my knowledge you can buy any mazda rotary engine and put it in this car and it would fit????

please help

you can put any rotary engine and it would fit... depending on which one with lots of custom fabrication and tons of money , and alot of work + if your putting a turbo swap in you have to change the transmission, rear end, starter, more. search. the only thing that will basically drop right in is another non turbo engine from a second gen

so i hope you know how to turn a wrench, and second off before you buy a car (especially a rx7) you should do research on it , the seals im guessing are the apex seals , which are pretty much the 1 thing you dont want to be bad , it probably needs a rebuild which will cost twice as much or more (depends where you get it done) as your car did lol, or it may be flooded. use the search.

Sounds to me like the car may have low compression which causes the motor to flood. Putting ATF will help build compression and start it up.

Basically, never shut off the car while the engine is cold and you should be fine. Or you can wire up a fuel pump switch and use that to turn off the car.

Well, it is the winter season, so you have yourself a winter project to tinker with!
How many miles are on the engine and such? Even though it's an N/A, I really don't trust people when they say they've given it an oil change every 3000 miles or take care of it as much as they should...

BTW, try to lay off the bumping...

i found some seals on ebay and i asked a local mechanic if i could do it myself and he said i needed some kind of "jig" to put the seals in and align the rotors and such.

anybody know what hes talking about?

and how many rotors are in my car?

Uhhh jig? He may need an engine stand adaptor?

You have 2 rotors in your car.
If you are looking for a rebuild (changing seals would be) talk to rotaryressurection .

Honestly though, your seals sound fine. You just need to deflood the car. Search for deflooding procedures. Then read the FAQ's. Search search search, there is plenty of helpful knowledge on this board.

ATF will momentarily build compression and allow you to start the engine. Regular old motor oil will do the same thing. But this is only a temporary fix. If it has lost a seal then the engine will need to be rebuilt.

Check the FAQ for plenty of info on rebuilding and swapping in the turbo engine. Very common questions, and they have been well covered.
