87 NA won't start- have the fuel pump cutoff already

My brother's been driving my rx7 around and it recently just stopped starting. It'd had the flooding problem before and I used to do the whole "pull the relay" trick to unflood the engine and eventually installed a switch to cut off the fuel pump.

well, the car stopped starting again. when i turn the key, it turns like it's going to start, but never does. it also seems to sound a little different to me. instead of the undulating sound of a starter, it sounds smoother- like it's missing something. i believe i'm getting fuel since it smells like gas while trying to start.

i've basically killed my battery trying to start it now. i figure i'm not getting spark somewhere, but that's just a guess. oh seven gurus, help me get my car back on the road. until then, i may be forced to get my 93 mustang lx back in drivable shape (as drivable as a 93 mustang lx can be anyways).

Your car may be heavily flooded. The same thing happened to me. The fuel cutoff switch alone won't work. This site has a good write up on what you can do.
