Erpdate!!

Hello. It's been a while since I updated this thread. So, no one is probably terribly interested in what I've got going on anyway....BUT! maybe someone is. Plus I think I'm doing some pretty bomb **** with the sound system right now. I realize that's not every (or any?) rx guys cup o tea, but I like my music and the stock system sucks *****.

So for starters, we'll do a little semi-concluding on the tail light status. I evened out the tint a good bit, no pictures of it and it is still very slightly uneven. I do have pictures of how horrible it was before I adjusted it though.

Pictures:

The cuts I made using an angle grinder:

And now some of the cool stuff until I take more updated pictures of the lights. Over the 4th I replaced the Pioneer stereo deck with an Alpine CDA 117 and added a kind of shitty Alpine V12 amp. I reused the speakers that I had already upgraded in the front, some 5 1/2 inch kickers. The back speakers were stock and were removed. The kickers sound pretty good considering they are loners right now. So, unfortunately....you guessed it, I have no pics. I will take some soon. In the meantime.... feast your eyes upon the real goodies: Infiniti Kappa Perfects 6.1 in my custom fabbed mounts for the rear speakers.

....and....

If it is sweet and going on your car, you better paint it black. So, more updates soon. I've got another mount in the making and 2 tweeters and 2 crossovers to install this weekend. Plus I need some more pics, so updates soon!

you should make use of the vented hood and get a 48mm ida to suit your 6port.

Cool idea, but this is my daily driver still. Once it is my garaged track car, I will consider it, though I will probably just end up getting turbos. Who knows tho. For right now? Hell no. I don't have the time or facilities for that kind of an upgrade.

Yeah, I guess. Kinda sounds like a laser blaster to me but I suppose it probably sounds pretty sweet in unison with the exhaust.

oh hahaha the "laser blaster" sound is the gilmore pulleys hes running really tight. Probably another NZ/Aussie thing. haha the sound im talking about is the induction throaty/rumble when he revs it. but all good dude just a suggestion. its more for ported rotors anyway.

Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime for an update!

I have completed my audio system finally after some minor/major set backs. I first got it all installed more or less and then found out that the amp I had was crap and only two inputs worked out of four. So i got a new amp and fabbed some rear mounts hooked it all up and it sounded like crap. The speakers were cracking past 15 volume with no bass. Finally got back in there after a couple weeks. Originally I had soldered everything behind the deck so I got some clips and redid it right. Then I messed with the amp settings and it sounds grand.

Here are the tails...the right light is still a bit too dim, but i got a ticket som im taking them off anyway. Then do em right.

Just washed. End of the story: there are still issues but it sounds pretty good. I'm getting another car for the winter so issues will get resolved once i transplant to the new vehicle.

What's the transparent green box with the coils and capacitors inside? Did you put the speak covers back over the front speakers? Why are there two back audio cables going to the amp. What size are the speaker wires? My audio knowledge is small so let me appoligze in advance if those are laughable simple questions for you

Not at all. My audio knowledge is still quite limited, but after this project is quite a bit better.
The green boxes are crossovers. Basically they split the input signal between the high frequency tweeters and the low and mid range woofers. I forgot to take pictures of the tweeters, but they are mounted to the rear of the doors near the ceiling.
I did not put the speaker covers back on as the speakers are 5 1/2 compared to a stock 5 so the covers did not fit. It looks fine.
The RCA audio cables run from the deck to the amp and are in place of speaker wiring. They are more expensive but do a better job of transferring audio sound are cleaner looking.
I'm pretty sure the speaker wire is 12 gauge. Bigger is better.

The smaller gauge # is better, like 4 is better than 8 gauge

Yeah, sorry, I should have been more specific. The bigger the wire, the better; the smaller the number, the bigger the wire. With speaker wire I'm not sure if you would want to go any larger than 12 gauge though. I'm not sure how feasible it is either.

Flaco,
You ever tried this in your RX? If you haven't noticed, I don't have a trunk. I tucked most of the wire that could be tucked under moderately accessible panels. And I've been back in those panels a couple times. So, it sucks to do that. Also, as I said, I'm not going to keep the system in this car.
However, I will not deny that you are correct.

So you ran two RCA cables for inputs? Is one input for mids and tweeters and the other input for base? So no speakers are run directly to the headunit?

First, that is correct that no speaker run from the head unit. The amp will make the sound quality much better and louder also.
There are two sets of RCA cables that run from the head unit. One is intended for the rear speakers, the other for the front. If I had a subwoofer, there is a spot on the back of the deck to run 2 cables for that as well.
I don't know how that works really so if there is anyone who does, please chime in. That is probably a pretty good assumption tho, that one transfers one or the other a mixture. Also, though, if you only have one plugged in there is no sound so the two cables together make a circuit.
