87 Mazda RX-7 Classified

Im a dirt poor High school student whos thinking about buying a car, and really likes the idea of a Gen II RX-7. So I ran across this classified in craigslist near my house. My question is, is it even worth trying?

"The car has an overheating problem. i don know whats wrong. The car also needs a starter. the body is in good condition. its redd with grey intrior. it has two dents in the driver side fender and thats it."

600 OBO.

Even if I can get a better price than 600, am i looking at an immediate 3000$ sinc in? or what? It basically just needs to last till college and i wont take it too college.

Reason Im thinking about an RX7 Gen II - good rating as a performance bargain (SCC), RWD, ROTARY!!! (cool), it is a good light, wellpowered car, and it handles well. And its cheap.

don't get it. just like you said, the price of a rebuild is 1000 alone in parts. dirt poor can't really afford that, IMO.

if you have extra time and money to fix it then go for it!

If that car was around here I'd pick it up, but if your as dirt poor as you say I'd stay away for the time being. Parts to fix it up arn't cheap and the price of gas alone for this puppy might send you down the crapper.

I would suggest a diffrent car. You are looking at spending some big $ if you get this one. I would not reccomend these cars to be a daily driver either. Mine was very reliable but spending big $ and downtime from ordering parts might make this car cost/time prohibitive. When they run right they are an amazing car to drive though.

I recommend that you wait. The car you described clearly has issues and is going to take some money to run properly. Since you stated you are dirt poor, the money required while small relative to the possible costs cars can require, it'll be out of your price range.
