87 GXL-T project thread
I recently traded a 91 coupe for this '87 GXL. Its in really rough shape, but is decently modded. It has a TII drivetrain with a Haltech. It runs and drives fine, no problems. i plan to fix all the problems with it and maybe use it for autox, track days, etc. ill update the thread as i work on it.
the good:
Haltech E6X - untuned
Haltech Wideband
Front Mount Intercooler
single exhaust
autozone intake
aftermarket radiator
MSD ignition
120k on body, 45k miles on motor
850cc primaries
no ac, ps, omp, or emissions, runs premix
the bad:
Interior is missing some pieces
some body damage.
no e-brake
really messy wiring.. running everywhere. other problems: ill start from teh front and work back LOL
Needs new bumper
AC removed, yet condensor and lines still there, and could use a better fmic mounting setup
No radiator overflow tank??
messy wiring
more messy wiring
mroe wiring and vacuum line mess
uncapped vacuum nipples?? same thing on the firewall side too
more random wiring
I love new projects!! cant way to start on it tomorrow heheh

Well i did a lot fo work to it today..
First, removed the shitty *** bumper and took out the AC condenser. I ended up having to pull the radiator to get to it. I ran new heater hose, but it still needs a new lower radiator hose, its looks to be cut from teh e-fan. also tore out the air relief silencer and AC lines
while i was in there, i had to redo the radiator mounting.. it was just resting on the condenser before. I zip tied some styrofoam to keep them apart, and bolted it at the top. kinda ghetto.. but it works
I changed the oil, and discoverd there was no oil fill tube I had an n/a fill tube laying around, but it would not fit, due to IC piping. the tb adapter is not angled back to allow clearance for fmic piping.. im going to order a greddy adapter and run the n/a fill tube, which should fit.
I also redid all the vacuum lines, and took out all the tees. I reran the boost guage line through the firewall. it was going through the window before capped all the unused ports
I also test fitted a stock bumper.. i had to cut the bottom a little to get it to fit right, but it looks way better
So now im just waiting on the tb adapter, and a fmic piping kit

hah yeah me too, im thinking it was a good deal b/c i bought the coupe for $700 it was all stock, had perfect body/paint, but needed a new brake booster, had vacuum leaks, some broken interior pieces, and 180k on the clock. It did have tokico springs and shocks though and ran perfectly
