87 GXL, Auto Sport Suspension Ques??

Im looking at purchasing a 1987 Mazda Rx7 GXL VIN# JM1FC3317H0541937

In the center console behind the shifter is has two individual buttons for the suspension, I think one says normal and the other sport. Could any one tell me how rare of an option this selectable suspension is a 87 RX7 and what exactly iy does when operating? Im somewhat familiar with RX7 and different models and options and have never seen this before. Usually the space behind the shifter is just like a coin tray. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

It's not particularly rare. I think it came on all the GXL's. It originally made the suspension more aggressive (not sure how else to put it). By now it probably doesn't even work right.

How can you tell if it still works? After I press mine my Volts drop 2 volts for a second then return.

It came on all GXL's and is considered part of the car's "luxury package." The easiest way to tell it works is to actually drive the car. I'm pretty sure the easiest way to tell it's working is to watch the volt gauge and see if it drops when you switch modes or when you start cornering hard and going over bumps. You'll be able to feel the change in the stiffness of the suspension also if you drive it over 70 MPH. IIRC, that's the speed in which the car stiffens the suspension further automatically to adjust for the increased speed.
