87 fc

hey im new to this club, my name is brandon and i just bought a 1987 FC3S coupe. i drove it home and the day i got here the water pump started leaking, so i replaced that. then a couple days later driving out of my driveway it stalled out and wouldnt start. i checked everything and then my dad told me to check the plugs, i did and they were toast. so i replaced those. and because of that and trying to start it with bad plugs gas got into the oil so i had to replace that. is a lot of this normal for an fc with 116k on it? and if so what else should i expect to have to do to it?

Your car became flooded. It is very common with rotarys. Some times when you first start it and it idles for a bit it can over load on fule and stall out. More so if your plugs wee bad. The way we solve this issue "agian all this is in the FAQ and arcives" is you open the fuse panel under the hood on the drivers wheel well. Pull out the green fuse named EGI INJ. Go into your car hold the pedal to the flood and crank for 20 seconds. This process may need repeated. Put fuse back in and try and crank car. Under no condition on a good runing engin should you have to push the gas to crank it. The car should fire over in 5 seconds if it dosent it prolly wont start. You can now repeat process maybe 25sec cranking.

Now if it still dosent start you are way flooded. Pull the L spark plugs out "I have found in ocashion it is required to pull T as well" Allso pull the EGI INJ fuse again. Get in car hold pedal to floor and crank for 30seconds. This will spew all the gas out of the plug holes. Some times it is recomended or necisary to pore a once of motor oil into the L plug holes. ATF is allso recomended but it is hard on the seals so I go with oil. Put plugs back together and fuse. Now crank car it should fire right up. Only one time did I have to repeat this process.

When it gets serverly flooded you should allways replace your oil as it generaly gets contaminated from the fule. This can be costly depending on the oil you use. I use Royal Purple 20X50 at $6.99 a quort. What you use is your choice the FAQ has some NFO on this. MY choice is RP or Red Line for synthetics and Castrol GTX for Dino oil.

Now is a great time to do a full tunup on your car again in FAQ and replace all the high MI and worn out parts as needed. Welcome and enjoy the car when you get used to them and get the quorkes out you will love it.

You probably want to drain and refill all of your fluids too. Along with your spark plug wires, filters, and check to see if there are any hoses that might need replacing. Make sure your brakes and tires are all up to specs for safety .
