87, 89, or 93 gas for TurboII

so now that the T2 is up and running again...just wondering what you guys put in yours and if it really "does" make a difference. 3 years ago i always put 93 octane in my n/a, now i just put in 87 and notice no difference (actually runs better)...

for the T2 i've only had to fill it up twice from driving it home. once was with 87...once was with 93. the car was running shitty (for other reasons), so i couldn't notice a difference between them. i do have some mods...but its not running much boost at all...what should a POOR college student do?

Forced induction cars need the highest octane you can get to avoid detonation.

"Poor college student" you say? Well, you can use 87 on your TII without ill effects. Premium reached $2.20 to $2.30 a gallon here during the summer and there was no way I was gonna pay that for my 16 gallon tank. The highest octane available is the most ideal option, but keep your boosting down and you shouldn't have any problems related to the 87 octane. Around here, we don't even get 93 octane anymore. Our highest is 91.

Talking College student wih Turbo II

Hey! I'm one too!!
My turboII is running 15 psi and I only put in 94 octane in it.
I haven't tried anything lower so it would be interesting to hear other ppl's history on this issue.

hehe...yeah i really need to order a true boost gauge...but i'm guessing with the ported wastegate i'm only running around 5-6 psi

Yeah, but you have an intake and straight exhaust. I was hitting 8-9 psi with intake and straight thru exhaust. Then I hit fuel cut a buncha times and an apex seal decided to stick.

without the ported wastegate i'm SURE i'd be hitting fuel cut and need an FCD. but the previous owner must have really ported it...cause i don't hit fuel cut at all...
