86 S4 NA Wiring...

Alright I just picked up an 86 S4 for $300.

The previous owner before the guy I bought it from decided to take part of one harness and part of another and splice them together. Well the only way to get it to start is to ground a certain set of wires. Unsure what they are as I was in the car turning the key.

I would figured I need to just get a harness and replace the one someone tried to hack together but wanted some feedback to see if that seems like the problem.

Thanks,
Mike

yes, that sounds like a wiring problem.

And your bumps have been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen RX-7 technical section.

If you are lacking responses perhaps you need to re-word your posts to be more clear. Your thread starting post in this thread is very hard to understand and no wonder that no-one else replied.

Sorry it didn't make sense. Even reading over it though it still makes sense to me.

Figured you would know what I am saying. You are typically the only person that has helped with any of my problems.

Thanks,

Mike

Depends which harness in the engine bay and no one knows which harness it is. You gotta give a clue as to where this harness is mucked up.

86 na are pretty easy and simple. IF it's the harness that is on the engine and routes from the engine over to the right fender and carries on to the passenger side firewall where it enters the crew compartment, then that is the EM or emissions harness and is not too hard to remove and replace on a n/a series four. Only buy this harness from the same series car. A series 5 won't do the job.

Some people refer to this harness as the Engine harness when they're selling it. Poor devils can't help themselves.

Yeah, it is the harness from the passenger side firewall.

Its spliced together with the rest of the harness right before it gets to the engine. Kind of hanging over the space between the fender and the engine.

I'd just buy a Emissions harness off the for sale place on this site. I'd suggest calling it the ENGINE harness with a note that it's the Emissions harness so you'll get more responses. Make sure you get a 86-88 non turbo harness. No 88 harness allowed.

On the other hand I've spliced that same harness on a 87TurboII and it was b/t 30 plus wires and not as straight fwd as splicing the same colored wires together. That worked very well for a couple of years. It's too difficult to say what is spliced wrong on yours or where the hack job went bad.

I wouldn't give over fifteen bucks for one myself and It'd have to be in faily good shape.
