Hey guys just got my 86 Rx7 a few days ago she was running good then last night it wouldnt start and there would be a click noise it wouldnt even turn over. And now its turning over but really slowly like it doesnt want to. I've read up on a few things like it could be the starter motor or something electrical. Any help would be great.

 

check the negative terminal? did it get cold enough to drain the battery?

that clicking noise is the main relay next to the trailing coil. It will click when either you have bad grounds or insufficient power.

There are two common reasons for the slow rotation and the clicking noise. First, I would check the little things like Zerkster said (nice pic btw lol). But if its not a poor connection, either your starter is dying or if you have a neutral safety switch, there isn't enough getting threw the switch to power up the starer with enough juice.

One way to tell if you have a neutral safety switch would be to put the car in neutral to see if the engine starts to roll over. If it doesn't, you probably have the switch.

By "put it in neutral" you mean depress the clutch pedal, not put the shifter in neutral. If you look up under the dash you can see it and the connector, if you really want to test it just pull the connector and jump it. But I doubt thats the issue

 

No, I meant just leave the stick in the neutral position and leave the clutch out. Im not sure if the S4 has that switch but that would be one way to find out

 

My 88 vert will not start until the clutch is fully pushed in. On a cold morning it is hard to turn over because of the bloody switch will not always complete the circuit despite jabbing the clutch in repeatedly. I do not need such a switch, how can I delete it?

You would jumper the B/R wire and the B/G wire.

 

Ok cheers i'll check tomorrow. I tried charging the battery but it doesnt want to fully charge so I might buy a new battery also.
